ALZHEIMERS

A few months ago I was surfing the web and came across a site that was looking for people to participate in an Alzheimer test study. I’m 77YO so I I sent in my limited info. In a few days I was contacted by a study coordinator with info about the study. It is for Eli Lilly. They are looking for people who do have the blood markers that indicate that are in an elevated likely hood of getting Alzheimers. If selected, the participant will be given a new drug or a placebo for 5 years to see the impact. All participants are financially compensated expenses. Rebecca also signed up for the test

We both did an initial telephone startup interview. A few weeks later we drove about 40 miles to A Doctor’s office for a blood draw to see if had the inherited blood marker to make us included in the test program.

We both failed the test, we don’t have the Alzheimers blood marker for Alzheimers. We are not not qualified for the 5 year test.

Damn! Now I’m back to CRS as a reason that I Can’t Remember Stuff. oh well, CRS is better than Alzheimers.

I’ve been to the eye surgeon a few times to have my Cataract inserts checked and ‘polished’. I received my inserts in 2014. There is a little blurring it one area of the right eye. It sometimes happens a few years after the cataract inserts are inplace. The Doctor does what he refers as ‘polish the lens’ but it not really polished. A laser is used to loosen debris that is in front of or behind the lens. The debris then just falls down to the bottom of the lens and is out of the sight line. This should be an only once in a life time procedure. It is done locally and only takes a few minutes. I did not see or feel the laser beam but I heard the machine each time the Doctor fired It. I didn’t count but my estimate is that he fired the laser 20-30 times.

The blur is now gone from my sight. I now have a new eye glass Rx. My distance sight is good enough that I could not use glasses and see OK. Mostly I need reading glasses but some days I can read without them. I’ll get progressive lenses and wear them all the time.

Polish my eye ball

12 years ago I had both eye lenses replaced with new plastic lenses to correct cataracts. I still wear glasses, mostly to read, but I can often read normal size text without glasses but I have to squint a little. In the last few years my right eye has become a little fuzzy. My eye surgeon sat that sometimes junk gets in front of the lens. Today he preformed a procedure that I can’t pronounce or spell, the Doctor called it POLISH THE LENS. A laser is used to burn off the junk and it settles to the bottom of the lens and is out of my sight line. This a one time procedure and should out last me.

I took this photo after the D&C. There is nothing special to see here, just my eye and bags.

The dryer arrived !

We inspected the damage on the rear bottom corner. It was minor damage and we accepted it. Rebecca called Home Depot to tell them it was installed and appears to be OK. They offered us a discount for accepting damaged merchandise, we.have until Monday to try it out, if it’s Ok that’s good. If there is a problem we can refuse it and they will pick it up for return no charge.

Monday 8/14

We ordered the washer and dryer with raised bases. This morning the washer and both bases arrived and were installed. Now we are waiting for the dryer we went to the hardware store and bought a clothesline and clothespins to use until the dryer is delivered.

Damn! HomeDepot😖

It’s about six weeks since we ordered the LG washer & dryer from Home Depot. There is a 2 week delivery delay because the appliances come directly from LG to Home Depot. The first pair arrived at HD damages. A 2 week delivery delay and the second pair arrived damaged. The HD scheduler said we will get the White Glove treatment and they will arrive in 1 week, that 1 week was last Monday. No delivery and no phone call. It’s now Saturday and Rebecca got a text that the dryer arrived damaged but the washer is coming today. It’s 11:15am and no word yet.

PATIENTLY WAITING !

A/C story continues

A/C Tech arrived a few minutes past 8 am. He replaced the fan motor and was gone by 9:15. Cost for 2 visits and the motor was & $450. I expect that the A/C will work now.

We’d 8/2 – Air Conditioner

Yesterday I said it was working and it did for a few hours. The problem is with the condenser coil fan and it stopped again. I suspect it is a bad motor but the A/C supply house is already closed.

I contacted a local A/C service business and they said that 8am is the best they could do. The last 2 days have been not as hot as last week and we were Ok make it through last night with no A/C.

A couple minutes last 8am the guy arrived. I showed him what I had done. He tested the compressor to make sure it was good. So I only need the fan motor. He had one in his truck but it was the wrong rotation so it moved air down instead of up. That motor in in now and is cooling the house and he will bring the correct motor tomorrow morning. He left 90 minutes ago and the house is cooling very nicely.

I’ll update that cooling saga when it changes.

August 1st – A/C stopped

The house was quite warm last night, I thought that the whole house air conditioner quit. At 2am I checked the thermostat and it was OK, the A/C vents were blowing air but it wasn’t cold air. At 7 am I checked the outside coil and the fan wasn’t turning but it was making noise. I removed the control panel cover and photographed the 2 compacitors and drove to the local hardware store. They told me that no local store carried A/C repair parts. I would have drive to the larger town of Greenwood 16 miles away. I’m no A/C tech. But am familiar with motor circuits and controls. I figured that 3 components handle the start & run of the 2 motors. I figure that the 2 compacitors are very likely to fail and I guessed they were not too expensive. The 240vac electrical contactor was my 3rd guess of the cause of failure.

I drove the 32 mile round trip and bought both capacitors for about $37. After I installed them, I restored the 240vac and activated the thermostat. DAMN! It didn’t change anything. I checked the resistance across the cooling motor coils while turning the blade by hand and I saw about equal ohms with some minor fluctuation which helped me think that the motor was OK. I couldn’t see the info label on the contactor so I removed it and left the wires dangling.

Another 32 mile trip to the A/C supply store. I thought the contactor would be more expensive and that was why I didn’t get it last time. I should have asked for the price because it was only $15. I installed the new contactor and restored the power and everything is working OK.

I had been thinking about buying those 3 parts for some time but never got around to it. Summer is quite hot and humid and that was a concern to me because, at our age, being without A/C is not an option. My cost was $57 plus some gasoline, and a lot of aggravation. I’ve been told that the cost to have a repair tech. Come and diagnose the problem is about $200 and parts are charged separately.

Fri 7/28 Trinity St

Every Friday there is a Farmers Market in the Livery Stable on Trinity St. This photo is looking down the one block long Trinity St. at the front of the Trinity Episcopal church. We try to go the market every week to support our local farms and some other local crafts people.
